The incident took place Saturday when officers from the Stratford Narcotics Vice and Intel Unit stopped a silver Kia Forte in the Honeyspot Motor Lodge, said Capt. Frank Eannotti.

While interviewing the driver, Matthew Prosnick, 32, of Bridgeport, detectives could see narcotics in the vehicle, prompting a search, Eannotti said.

During the search, officers undercovered a 9mm Taurus containing several rounds of ammunition in the center console along with a ski mask. The firearm was reported stolen out of Bridgeport in October 2017, he said.

Agents also uncovered several bundles of heroin stamped “DOA” as well as loose heroin, crack cocaine and narcotics packaging and gloves, Eannotti said.

While checking the passengers in the vehicle, detectives also found that two had outstanding warrants.

Prosnick was charged with weapons in a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, two counts of sale of narcotics, two counts criminal possession of a firearm, and for not having a pistol permit.

His passengers arrested on various drugs, littering and gun charges included Edwin Gonzalez, 28, of Bridgeport; Isaiah Gonzalez, 26, of Bridgeport; and 44-year-old Tanya Serrano, address unknown.

All are being held in lieu of $250,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court on July 11.
